How can you refill your cartridge?

Every printer ink cartridge is different from the others. Some are embedded with a reservoir which is filled with ink and some are sponge topped. You have to be very careful while doing it as instructed. The inkjet printer has two types of refill kits. One with the black ink and the other with the colored ink, containing magenta (purple), yellow and cyan (blue) color. It can be either done by yourself or you can take the help of professionals. But when you are doing it yourself then these are some easy steps to be followed. This method is known as the gravity method.

This process is very messy. Do not forget to cover your clothes with towels.

Fill up the syringe with the color you want to fill your printer ink cartridge with.

  • Put the needle inside the hole on the top of it and fill in the ink.
  • You must be very careful while carrying out this process. If any amount of air bubbles enter it, then that will affect your printing.
  • Another important step is washing away any left over ink in it.
  • After refilling clear the mess created by the process.

Step 1) Put the printer ink cartridge on some paper towels in an area where you can tolerate a spill.

Step 2) Look at the printer ink cartridge. This cartridge has two chambers. The Lower chamber is filled with a sponge. The Upper chamber is an empty ink reservoir.

Step 3) Put enough ink in the Lower chamber to saturate the sponge by injecting some ink through the ink exit hole on the bottom of the printer ink cartridge. Be sure that you do not push the sponge into the cartridge, or it will not make proper contact with the printhead when installed in the printer.

Step 4) Temporarily tape over the ink exit hole to keep the ink from dribbling out.

Step 5) Make a hole (by drilling or melting)into the Upper chamber. We suggest making the hole on the top of the printer ink cartridge.

Step 6) Inject ink into this new hole to fill the Upper chamber.

Step 7) Seal the new hole air tight using hot glue or black electrical tape. Do not use ordinary masking tape, duct tape, or scotch tape, since these will not make an air tight seal.

Step 8) Remove the temporary tape on the printer ink exit hole and insert in the printer.

For example, when an Epson inkjet printer believes an inkjet cartridge is empty (even though, it isn’t) it can sometimes be tricked by putting a piece of clear tape over the outlets of the inkjet printer ink cartridge .

The qualities of recycled inkjet cartridge refilling devices have good and bad reviews. Consumer reports that recycled printer ink cartridges may have less ink than OEM inkjet printer cartridges and give no cost savings. Other reports claim that with recycled inkjet cartridge refilling inks the lifetime of prints may be considerably reduced. However, another 2007 report showed that in a double-blind test testers preferred the printing produced using recycled ink over OEM ink. OEM inkjet printer cartridges have undergone significant system compatibility testing with the the printer.

Is a recycled inkjet cartridge refilling a better option for you? Maybe. I have just recently started buying recycled printer ink cartridges for my HP3100 printer and I see absolutely zero difference in my pages. I mostly just print in black and white. However, I print color pages too and there would be no way, in my opinion, to notice the difference between the OEM ink and the recycled ink.
